Organized by Google Developers Group (GDG) Zamboanga and supported by Google Inc., the
first DevFest in the city was held on December 13, 2013 at Centro Latino, Paseo
del Mar. The festival was jampacked with
more than 300 Computer Science students and afficionados from the city and
schools such as Western Mindanao State University, Universidad de
Zamboanga, Ateneo De Zamboanga, AMA
Computer University, Systems Technology Institute (STI) College, COMTECH
Institute, Pilar College, Polytechnic College, and Claret College of Isabela. It is the first Devfest held in Zamboanga, and it is also the last DevFest in the Philippines for the year 2013.
What are DevFests then?
DevFests are community-run events that provide the
opportunity for developers and I.T. enthusiasts to learn about Google developer
technologies and platforms.
It was a whole-day event of speaker sessions, Q-and-As, and
Globe-Google freebies. The festival was
graced by a group of prominent speakers led by Jerome Locson the Program
Manager for the Philippines of Google Apps Support Program and founder of GDG
Zamboanga. He was the Keynote speaker and he focused on Google Developers
Programs and App Script. Albert Padin the Co-Founder at Sym.ph and CEO & Founder at SpellDial, introduced Google App Engine and Python
and got a lot of rave reviews from the audience while Michelle
Santos Developer Relations of Globetelecoms wowed the crowd with
the latest from Globe Labs. On the otherhand, Jomar Tigcal GDG
Philippines Community Manager, presented
UI Designing: Android UI/UX Best Practices to the enthusiastic crowd.
